FRANCES SKIRT PATTERN

This high-waisted fall skirt is just begging to get on your hook and out in the world!

The Frances Skirt sits high on the waist and can be worn with or without leggings, taking us right into the fall and colder weather! It is incredibly comfy to wear and so easy to make. The sizing is easy to adjust to your exact waist and the yarn, Vanna’s Choice Lion Brand Yarn, is squishy and stretchy but will hold up to wear and washing. All around, it’s the perfect fall skirt to get in the mood for rainy days and chilly nights.

SQUAMISH COWL PATTERN

This “quilted” cowl is made by sewing together crocheted squares. Incredibly simple, the technique makes the cowl look more complex than it really is!

I wanted to create a cowl that had a lot of texture, but was very simple to work up. I chose to create ribbed squares, using double crochet, that I sewed together in an alternating pattern to create this patchwork look. I also love a good fringe and added one to the bottom edge of this cowl.

SERENITY BEANIE PATTERN

A chunky, easy to make beanie with options to finish with a bun opening or a delightful pompom. Which will you choose?

Jewel-toned beanies are so gorgeous! I love the stitch definition that this purple yarn gives to the berry cluster stitches. This hat can be finished as a bun beanie or regular beanie. Both versions are adorable.

STARBURST GRANNY SQUARE SHORTS/SKIRT PATTERN

These soft cotton shorts are a dream to make and feel amazing to wear. Throw them on over a swimsuit for the beach or just around town when it’s hot. Incredibly comfy, they can turn into your lounge or jammy bottoms this fall. I never want to take them off!

I am so pleased with how these shorts turned out! I used to hate making granny squares – something about the repetitive crocheting did not interest me – but as I get more into making my own clothes I have started to enjoy designing them by just using granny squares. This simple pattern works like a custom recipe – even with a skirt option. Read on to learn how to make your own pair of shorts or skirt!

4 FAVORITE CROCHET PROJECTS ON THE ROAD

Four DIY crochet projects for the road! I designed these projects while we were living #vanlife and still use them today.

The year we spent on the road I began my journey into designing my own crochet patterns. We had free time in the evenings and on rest days, and it was the perfect creative pursuit for me to engage in. I especially enjoyed sitting in a camp chair in a new place, looking around at the desert beauty, and imagining what new project I could crochet. I crocheted much more than I ever had before, and learned so many new skills, and became much more consistent in my stitches and tension. Below are some of my favorite projects I designed on the road, and all are things I am still using regularly!

SIMPLE PAN HANDLE PATTERN

This simple, but bright pan handle will dress up your pans and keep your hands from burning while cooking. It is easy to adjust the length for different sized pans and works up quickly!

This pattern is one of the first crochet projects I designed on our #vanlife trip. This Simple Pan Handle cover was indispensable for our cast iron pan –  the main stay of our mobile kitchen. I loved the pop of color and how easy it made cooking in the confined space of our mini-van! I hope you enjoy it too.
