CAT-O’-LANTERN CHALK BAG PATTERN

A “cat-tastic” pumpkin bag pattern that even glows in the dark! Use it to carry candy on Halloween or your chalk ball on the wall.

Aaaaand! Just in time for Halloween and and the fall season we have the Cat-O’-Lantern chalk bag! My partner (in climbing and life) and I always try to complete a night climb on Halloween and I cannot wait to take this “glowing” chalk bag with me this time!

High up on the wall, this little chalk bag came in handy for carrying my Halloween candy along!

Not a climber? This little cutie makes a perfect treat bag for Halloween! Cinch it up with a crocheted chain, instead of paracord, and you have yourself a little on-the-go bag.

To achieve a glow-in-the-dark chalk bag I held a strand of Orange Red Heart Super Saver yarn with a strand of Glow-in-the-dark Phosphorescent Yarn by Unique Yarns Co. (I love all of their yarn, they truly are unique!)

DESCRIPTION

The finished chalk bag will be ~5 inches wide and ~5 inches tall. Glow-in-the-dark yarn held with orange acrylic yarn gives it a ghoulish glow! Quick half-double crochet stitches with doubled yarn make this an incredibly quick make. The eyes, ears, and nose are all made from simple triangles!

MATERIALS

  • Worsted weight acrylic yarn in orange (Weight: 4/medium, 197 yd/3 oz): ~100 yd
  • Glow-in-the-dark Phosphorescent Yarn (Weight: 4/medium, 175 yd/1.75 oz): ~100 yd
  • Scraps of worsted weight acrylic yarn in black
  • Size J (6 mm) crochet hook and size H (5 mm) crochet hook– I have recently begun using Furls Crochet hooks and have seen immediate relief from the hand pain that used to bother me. I am an affiliate of Furls Crochet and am so proud to represent their quality products.
  • Finishing needle
  • ~1 yard of paracord for belt

You will be holding two strands of yarn the entire time you work the main body of the chalk bag (if you are not using the glow-in-the-dark ribbon yarn, substitute for another strand of orange yarn). Begin with your size J (6 mm) crochet hook.

Taking a length of black yarn, embroider a kitty mouth under the triangular nose. Finally, embroider two eyelashes on the outer corner of each triangle eye. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
