Ready to try a faux fur crochet pattern that won’t drive you crazy??? I love the look of shaggy, furry yarn, but have such a hard time seeing the stitches! I came up with a simple way to use this yarn with increased stitch definition and it makes working with it so much easier.
The secret? Hold your worsted weight yarn and faux fur yarn doubled! I created a design that uses this easy secret and also takes advantage of that worsted weight yarn you’re holding by adding in these diamond-shaped windows.
I used Red Heart’s Red Heart Hygge Fur yarn in Slate Blue and worsted weight yarn scraps in grey.

DESCRIPTION
We are all spending a lot of time at home and I find that I am using so many throw pillows as bolsters, laptop stands, and foot padding that it was time to make another.
This pillow comes out to ~12″ by 12″. Tapestry crochet techniques are used throughout – Two Little Birds Patterns has a very helpful video on these techniques here; if you don’t know how to “yarn under” or “carry-through” then check it out!
MATERIALS
- Red Heart Hygge Fur yarn (Weight: 5/bulky) – 200 yards
- Worsted weight yarn (Weight: 4/medium) – 200 yards
- Size K (6.5 mm) Crochet Hook
- 12″ x 12″ pillow insert
- Finishing needle
ABBREVIATIONS
- ch: chain
- st: stitch
- sc: single crochet
GAUGE
4″ x 4″ Square = 12 sc x 11 rows on size K (6.5 mm) crochet hook with worsted weight yarn held doubled.
DIRECTIONS
Color changes happen in the middle of the rows in this pattern and all stitches are sc crochet. Since the yarn is held doubled in this pattern, you will always be holding at least one strand of worsted weight yarn, switching the other strand between the faux fur yarn and worsted weight yarn.
The color changes are indicated in the written pattern by a new color abbreviation next to the number of stitches in that color; for example: w1, b2. b represents the background color and w represents the grey diamonds and the numbers refer to how many stitches you single crochet in that color. It is helpful to mark the right side of your work to keep your right side clean. Odd rows you will be working on the right side, even rows on the wrong side.
Tip: Create two balls or cakes of your worsted weight yarn to keep it organized; one ball will always be held doubled with the fur yarn, and the other will be for the diamonds when you hold two strands of worsted weight yarn at once.

FRONT PANEL
b: Main Color (fuzzy background: faux fur yarn and worsted weight yarn held doubled)
w: Contrasting Color (grey diamonds: worsted weight yarn held doubled)
Chain 1 at the beginning of each row. Each row will have 36 single crochet stitches in it.
(Wondering what the checkboxes are for? Check out this tutorial and make online patterns easier to follow!)
Once finished with the front panel, finish off and weave in ends.
Each square of the stitch graph is one single crochet stitch. On odd rows, you will be working on the right side, even rows on the wrong side. Odd rows you will also be working right to left on the stitch graph above and even rows you will be working left to right.
If you find your tapestry curling then it is a good idea to block it so that it hangs or lays flat.
BACK PANEL
Ch 36 (holding fur yarn and worsted weight yarn together) ~12″
Fasten off with the worsted weight yarn, do not fasten off with the faux fur yarn. Lay your front and back panels on top of each other, right sides together. Using the faux fur yarn and your crochet hook, slip stitch around three sides – leaving the base open for your pillow insert.
Turn your pillow inside out and stuff your pillow insert inside. Using just the faux fur yarn and a yarn needle whip stitch the base closed.
optional Tassels
You are creating four tassels, one for each corner of the pillow. I love the way Two of Wands creates and describes how to make tassels, this description was taken from her Sliding Doors Pillow design.
Cut eighty 12” lengths and eight 18″ lengths of faux fur yarn. Divide the 12” lengths into four groups of 20. Tie each bundle at the middle point with one of the 18″ lengths. Fold each bundle in half so that the tie is at the tip of the loop created with the fold.
Tie crosswise around each folded bundle about 1” below the top of the fold with the remaining 18” lengths. Wrap the tails of the ties around and around the bundles and then thread them inside and down the middle of the bundles with a tapestry needle. Cut your tassels to an even length.
Using the long lengths, tie the tassels onto the four corners of the pillow and knot to secure. Weave in all ends.
You are finished! Toss that pillow on a couch and get comfortable!
