Earning just under one hundred dollars in a month of blogging might not seem like a lot, but it is laying the ground work for a future in profitable blogging and I am excited about my results six months in to this wonderful and crazy world of blogging! My other goal with sharing my expenses and earnings at this point in my blogging career is to provide data and examples from a blogger who has just started and who’s experience might be more accessible to other new bloggers. I want to show you what its like when you just start out, not when your blog has blown up and you are able to pay the mortgage with your blog. So enjoy!

TRAFFIC TOTALS JANUARY 2019
TRAFFIC OVERVIEW
Since I experienced my first viral Pinterest pin in December of 2018 (read more on that here!), my page views have settled down to just under 50k a month. January is a notoriously slow month for bloggers and content creators, so I am happy with these stats and look forward to continued growth.
Before December, 2018, I was averaging just under 5k pageviews a month. It is incredible how much traffic can be generated from just one pin on Pinterest! I have been working hard on learning from this viral pin that gave me such a bump in pageviews so that I can be ready capitalize when it happens again.
As I enter my second month of high pageviews (compared to the first 4 months blogging), I am close to being able to upgrade from my current Google Adsense ad provider to a more tailored fit for my blog. I have not chosen an ad agency, but will write another post with those updates when they happen!
TOP TRAFFIC SOURCE
95% of my blog traffic comes from social media, and nearly 100% of that traffic is from Pinterest. Pinterest has always been my top traffic source, however this is especially true since I had a pin go viral and my traffic landscape changed completely!

TAKEAWAYS
Pinterest. Pinterest. Pinterest! Pinterest drives my traffic and therefore my ad income and Etsy pattern sales. It is clear that I need to spend even more time honing my Pinterest skills and engaging with the site. I find that I enjoy working with my Instagram account more, because of the human engagement, but very little of my traffic results from this platform. This does not mean I will give up my friendships and relationships and followers on Instagram, only that I will work to be even more intentional with my Pinterest account in the future.
